Experiencing Domestic Abuse?
Experiencing Domestic Abuse?
If you are experiencing domestic abuse, you are probably feeling frightened, overwhelmed or unsure what to do next.
You may be thinking about ending the relationship or how to prevent abuse from an ex-partner, who will live in the family home, your children, money, work or what might happen if you tell someone. You do not have to deal with everything at once. The information below can help you understand your options and decide what support you may need.
How NCDV can help
NCDV can help you apply for a civil protection order to stop further abuse and prevent the abuser contacting you. You can refer yourself, and you do not need to report the abuse to the police or other professional if you don’t want to, although we may discuss other sources of help with you.
Our service is free and available across England and Wales. We will explain your legal options, assess whether you may be eligible for an order and for legal aid funding, and support you through the application process. If you are not eligible for legal aid funding, we can still help you.
What NCDV cannot help you with
NCDV can only assist you with a civil order. We cannot provide:
- emergency police assistance;
- refuge or temporary accommodation;
- financial or benefits advice;
- counselling or ongoing emotional support;
- support with child arrangements, divorce or other wider family-law matters.
Other specialist organisations may be able to help with these concerns and we can signpost you when we call you back.
If you or someone else is in immediate danger, call 999. If you cannot speak on a mobile phone, listen to the operator and press 55 when prompted.
