KMEWO is a “Led by and For” BME women organisation that provides specialist support services to
women from the Kurdish, Middle Eastern and North African (KMENA) communities living in the UK.
Our aims are to promote KMENA women’s human rights and quality of life; help them recover from distress and suffering from past and present experiences of domestic abuse and honour-based violence and increase opportunities for better education, employment and participation.
We provide specialist Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) services and crisis intervention to some of the most vulnerable minoritised women who are experiencing complex social issues, and fleeing from Harmful Practices (HP), including Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), Forced Marriage and “Honour” Based Violence (HBV).
Our holistic services include: 1:1 advice and advocacy , 1:1 specialist VAWG advocacy, 1:1 counselling services in community languages, peer-support groups ; wellbeing workshops and building women skills through ESOL, IT and parenting courses , as well as employment support. In 2019 over 950 women directly accessed our services , with overall beneficiaries reaching over 2000 individuals.
Despite the unprecedented challenges brought on by Covid-19, all services mentioned above have continued remotely , ensuring services are well managed and safely accessible to all.
