Humraaz is an independent charily led by and for black and minoritised women. We provide early intervention and support in the face of hostile environments and difficult experiences with recognition of their diverse needs. To counteract the effects of domestic violence and trauma, we provide a platform with cultural sensitivity and understanding to enable the women to have a voice.
Established in 2002 by a group of local women activists we offered sanctuary for women who experienced domestic violence, domestic abuse, sexual violence, forced marriage and honour based violence, and we continue to do so.
Our provision for the women includes, but is not limited to, sanctuary/refuge, support and guidance, bearing in mind cultural nuances, a rebuild programme for social and economic independence, education, wellbeing and therapeutic intervention, community-based development of skills and aspirations and a peer support group for professional ethnic minority women. We aspire and plan to be an all inclusive nucleus for BME women giving them a holistic approach.
