Information for Solicitors and Process Servers
We were formed in 2002 by Dr Steve Conner OBE, he found through personal experience with a friend that the resources for victims to obtain the legal support they needed were difficult to come by especially if the victim did not qualify for legal aid, the contributions were unaffordable or could not afford a solicitor.
Steve provided the support to his friend to represent them as a litigant in person and in conversation with solicitors established a route to enable an income stream by providing solicitors with drafting services. This income would fuel the cost of helping litigants in person.
Fast forward to today and we are proud that we help to obtain over a third of all the non-molestation orders granted in England and we can only do this with the help and support of solicitors across the country.
We have a comprehensive referral system designed for the police, IDVAs, support agencies and housing associations that have been established since 2002, this makes NCDV the first port of call for advice from these organisations. In fact, in 2015 our referral process won the Law Society Excellent Award for client service.
As well as the usual contact routes for victims we have on online referral process REFERDIRECT.org.uk and app which we have been awarded winner of the Mobile Innovations award for best user experience.
Firms on our panel are selected to provide service to a particular client using a mapping system that establishes the most convenient court and firm to the clients address as well as taking into account the availability of the firm.
Our process serving procedure is undoubtedly the best in the country, we target to serve 85% of orders within 24 hours and often we surpass this. We also run a nationwide database called ASSIST www.assist.uk.net, this is an online injunction storage system updated in real time by the process servers which has been specially created for the police. The police are overwhelmed and under-resourced, ASSIST is a central database that allows retrieval of the documents allowing the police to react instantly to reported breaches of orders. Prior to this, it would take days to retrieve these orders leaving the victim vulnerable and the police unable to help.
In 2013 Dr Steve Conner was honoured with an OBE for his services to Domestic Violence, we are committed to helping victims obtain the legal recourse they are entitled to irrespective of their financial circumstances. During 2016 we helped over 1000 victims obtain protective injunctions that could not afford a solicitor or did not qualify for legal aid.

Once the order is obtained it is critical that service is completed as fast as possible. Firms are free to use their established arrangements with process servers or use our recommended route.
We have designed processes and procedures that give the victim the fastest process serving service to ensure their protection and a referral feedback loop that satisfies the referrers that their victim is in good hands.
Our process servers work 24/7 and also communicate their progress directly with the victim giving peace of mind knowing when service is completed. They will not only deliver a copy of the order to the local police station but will also upload it to ASSIST to ensure the police have immediate access.
