Every year, from the 25th of November to the 10th of December, we take part in 16 Days of Activism.
Whilst we support all victims and survivors of domestic abuse and violence, regardless of their gender, we also recognise that a high percentage of all our referrals are from women.
This year, the campaign theme for this year’s 16 Days of Activism is themed around the phrase #NoExcuse
We asked our teams to speak to the people who need our help, to write down on a post-it note, each day, the excuses the victims have been given as to why their abusive partners or ex-partners have abused them.
What you will see are some of those post-it notes. I think you will agree they are both powerful and moving.
As a victim survivor myself, I’m very familiar of many of these excuses – I’ve heard them all before but there’s no excuse for violence and abuse. We need to come together as a movement to raise awareness of this heinous crime.
On average, two women a week are killed by their current or former partners.
Between 2020 and 2022, according to data from the Home Office, 186 women were murdered. That’s 186 too many.
We will be posting throughout the 16 Days of Activism. Please follow our campaign and share our posts.
Together, we can all make domestic abuse socially unacceptable.
To anybody reading this, who needs help and support – you are not alone.
There is help out there. NCDV can help you obtain protection from your abuser in the form of a protective injunction and signpost you to other services that can help you with additional support.
